Re: Why am I being asked for this file??

This was it. Man, this stuff never ceases to amaze me. A device being
recognized (and read from) during one part of a process, but not in a later
part of the same process. Wow. And doctors and lawyers think *they* have
challenging careers.

I sincerely appreciate your input.

Intel Matrix Storage Manager?

A client of mine has a Tyan 1U server (GS12/P4/2.8/Intel 82801ER
controller) with two 250gb SATA drives in Raid1. We decided to reformat
and reinstall his SBS2003 R2 OS. I personally have handled this for him
twice before, so I know the process pretty well.

I say that because last night I encountered an issue that I can't
remember ever seeing before on this server's installations (although I
have seen it on some HP computers I've worked on before). After F6'ing
the SATA/RAID driver from a floppy (f6flpy32, downloaded from both Tyan's
and Intel's websites), Windows allows me to format my drives (which are
recognized perfectly) and begins copying the files. However, after about
15 seconds I'm prompted for the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver,
which, as far as I can determine, is exactly what was *supposedly* F6'ed.

I'm relatively certain that I've got the right driver, and it appears to
load properly from my USB floppy drive, so what's going on here? Does it
sound like an issue with the RAID controller? The very reason we are
reloading SBS is because of some quirky issues we've been experiencing
that I haven't been able to explain.

I'm sure I've left out critical info. Please let me know what else I
need to provide.

Some USB floppy drives are recognised during the first part of the setup
then not the second time they need to be accessed. Sometimes you can
modify the files on the driver floppy. The procedure at the Intel link has
worked for me in the past on non-Intel motherboards. The second links
contains PIDs for a couple more USB floppy drives.
