Re: server loses connection

I'm not at a server at the moment. I always create a protocol for each port.
Once they are created you can add them all to your new rule. Traffic is TCP.

Outbound is what you should select first and test. Don't forget to add the
local network and local host in the Source and Internet as the destination.

If you still have problems, call them and find out which ports also have to
be opened INBOUND. Then create the protocols and rule for that.

in the management console in the protocols part, on the "this rule applies
to
" do you put in all protocols or selected protocols and in there, I can
only
put in one protocol in the new section, where do I add the other ones, I
can't use the same name to put in the other ports. or do I put them in
the
protocol range area. Need some more clarification on this part. and
they
don't say inside out or outside in, they either say inbound or outbound.
udp or tcp

In the ISA management console create a "new rule". Call it something
meaningful for this purpose. When you get to the protocol part, select
"new
protocol" (you can use the same name as the rule for ease of management).
Add the ports (normally from Inside to Outside is sufficient but you need
to
ask them if one of them needs to initiate from the outside). You might
have
to create a second rule (outside - in). Finish the wizard and click on
the
Apply button (top left).

I am running ISA as I have the ISA management console on the desktop and
appears to be working, here are the ports and what needs to be done

The ports that we will need open are as follows:

For Entrust (encryption)
829
709
389

For Appgate (the Java Applet used for the connection)
22

For the HTTP access to the 2 web pages)
80

Are you running ISA? What ports is the program using? Get the info
from
the
IT guys at the gov't.

You either do this in the ISA Manager or when running the CEICW.
Depends
on
your setup.

I have another question, I have a client that works with the gov't
and
would
like a program from them to run through our system but is blocked by
our
firewall. I can't seem to let the program through. How do I open
ports
and
stuff like that to let these programs work through sbs 2003. THe
program
works throught the internet.

Thanks

Every day, sometime in the day, the clients lose connection with
the
server. The server has sbs 2003 on it and no bdc. Each day, the
clients c an't connect to the internet or when I do the network
connections, I can't see the server in the list or will say,
networkpath not found. This happens and then it get's better by
itself. I looked in the event viewer and can't seem to find what
causes this. Does anybody have any idea what it could be.??

Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from your server and from a
workstation.

In a command prompt, type
ipconfig /all >c:\filename.txt

then you can open the text files, copy/paste into here. Make sure
to
tell
us
which is which.
