RE: Users adding printers

Hi John,

I make deep research by haven't found the solution yet.

1. Where is a wonderful article on how to install a printer which is useful
in a laboratory, classroom, or branch office setting where every computer
in the room or office needs access to
the same printer. But that need to install Print Management component, due
to the SBS limitation, we can't install that on SBS.

Item: Deploying Printers to Users or Computers by using Group Policy Print
Management can be used with Group Policy to automatically add printer
connections to a computer's Printers and Faxes folder. This method of
installing a printer is useful in a laboratory, classroom, or branch office
setting where every computer in the room or office needs access to the same
printer. It is also useful in large organizations, where computers and
printers are often separated by function, workgroup, or department, such as
marketing or human resources.

More info:

-a4df-63dd7248d93d1033.mspx

2. I tested the command net use \\sbsserver\printer, the command is
successfully. But that can't add a printer in the control panel.

How did you created the group policy? If you did the following:

enable User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control
Panel\Printers\Prevent addition of printers

Please temperally disable the policy and try again.

If you don't want some printers to be added, you can hide that by add $
behind the share name. You can also modify the printer permission:

Hope the information helps.
