RE: Restoring Exchange Database to a New Server

Hi Dave,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

First, if you want to recovery the information store from the older backup
successfully, the following information needs to be preserved the same as
the old Exchange server. Please have a check.

- Organization Name
- Administrative Group Name
- Storage Group Name
- Store Name

To restore Exchange mailbox, we can use the Recovery Storage Group. Since
you have only 5 users, a easier way is to restore directly:

Step 1: Export each user's e-mail to pst file.

Step 2 : Dismount the Mailbox Store.

1. Right-click Mailbox Store, and then click Dismount Store.
2. Click Yes when you are prompted to continue.
3. Right-click Mailbox Store, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Database tab, and then click to select the This database can
be overwritten by a restore check box.
5. Click OK.

Step 3: Copy C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\to another location for a
backup.

Step 4 : Restore Mailbox Store from backup.

Step 5. Mount the mailbox store.

Step 6: Import pst file to Exchange. Please ensure you select option
Replace duplicates with items imported.

Also, you can first restore from backup and then mount the database in
Recovery Storage Group. After this, please use Exmerge tool to export data.
