Re: cant send e-mails with exchange

While you are dealing on the technical issue with Cris, just a quick answer
to your general question. First, you should have mentioned in your post that
you are receiving mail via POP3 connector which would have made your
question less questionable. It still stands, if you don't have a record that
matches your server IP you will run into problems. Most of the mail servers
do reverse lookups and if it doesn't match they refuse your mail. You also
need to check with your ISP. A lot of them are blocking port 25 on their
perimiter for non-authorized servers.

I thought that you dont need A and MX records for sending e-mail (i am
using
a pop connector for recieving e-mail). Is that true or not?

regarding the router, does it make sense that my router blocks outgoing
traffic? i have a basic home router/AP/modem.

The question about MSN was hypothetical, i have no criminal intentions. I
have my own domain, so how do mail servers know whether i am authorized to
send mail of my own domain?

With your setup you do need to open port 25 on your router to send

unless your router lets all traffic from the LAN through.

You do however have a bigger problem. If you would send as @msn.com your
mail would be rejected by a large number of mail servers because you are
not
authorized to send for that domain and in a very short time your IP
address
will end up on numerous blacklists.

In order to send mail, you need to have a properly registered domain
with A
record(s) and preferably an MX record.

I have set up an SBS server with exchange, however i could not send
e-mails,
they just dont go through.
I understood that you dont need a dns record for this (i only want to
SEND
e-mails).

I dont understand the logic, if i configure exchange as @msn.com can i
then
send e-mails as if i am working for MSN?

I have been working on this for a week, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

one more thing, do i need to open ports in my firewall to be able to
send
e-mails?
