Hi Tony:
In every case that I have known, you just remove the tape, and insert the
cleaning cartridge. The drive will recognize the cartridge and spin about
30 seconds (ymmv), and eject the cartridge.
That really should be all there is.

Hi Dave
I know this may sound stupid but how do I manualy clean the drive.
It does not have an autoloadr. I have a cleaning tape but all i can do
is insert it, there are no other buttons on the front of the dat tape.
Thats why I have been trying to do it through the symantec program.
Thanks
Tony

You don't need to do anything about cleaning in the backup app at all.
That's just a built in function to automate it if your autoloader supports
that, but you don't have an autoloader. Just get the correct cleaning
tapes
for the drive. The manufacturer may or may not recommend a specific one,
but you can just go to any computer supplier and get the right size
cleaning
tapes for the drive, and any brand-name one should be fine. They're less
than $10 and probably work around 50 times.
I just have the person who changes the tapes pop in the cleaning tape
every
Friday. (I'm lucky to have an extremely reliable person to do this for
me,
as I not only forget cleaning, I also generally forget to change the
tapes).

Thanks Guys
My device is a single slot dat drive. I cant see any way to clean it
manually. i called support and after speaking to an Indian call center
they diverted my back to the help menu twice. After about 40 mins I
got through to a tech guy who then told me support would cost me $89.
I told him I had bought the software and had a license key and dont
think I should have to pay to ask a question about a product I
purchased. I will never buy their software again.
Thanks
Tony

Is your tape drive an autoloader? That feature is for if you have a
multi-tape device, where you put a cleaning tape in one slot instead of
a
backup tape. If you don't have an autoloader, I'd just manually clean
the
drive once a week. If it's an autoloader, I'm with Costas.
