Hopefully one of the lessons learned here is to not allow people access to
systems once they've been fired. In addition to disabling the user account
immediately, I start backing up anything important as soon as the decision
is made to let someone go, just in case they get wind of it.

We always ask that I.T. (someone with admin access) be informed before
the person is notified they are being dismissed. In the case of an
employee that has turned in a notice to leave, we automatically start
stripping their access and just tell the company to pay them out for the
1 - 2 weeks and don't let them come back - depending on the company and
type of data.

People that are going to be removed have all of their email logged for
several days/week and then are escorted out before they can log in the
next day - before they even start.

We also go back through all fo their email, searching by key words (in
and out), to see what they were doing in the 30 days prior (longer
depending on what was found).
