Why don't you want to join it to the domain as authentication will become
much easier? You can use it as a non-domain member but those authentication
issues can make life difficult.

If a notebook is not a member computer of an sbs domain, can it access
domain
resources on a member server running 2K3. The LOB needs to transfer images
off the notebook to a folder on the 2K3 server.
