Costas,
I'm thinking that I'll remove SP3 and try to install again and see
what options are available if I don't take the standard install.
Thanks
Tony

Tony,
I have seen that error before but not with the companyweb database.
Something must have gone wrong when you restored companyweb (I assume that
no other instance of SQL Server runs on the SBS box). If you can't connect
to the database there isn't much you can do.

Hi Costas,
Thansk for taking the time to offer suggestions, I've now determined
that:
MSSQL$SHAREPOINT service is running
Security is set to Windows Authentification
Tried to apply SP4 but fails due to weak password on sa account but
can't update to something secure as I can't connect to the default
instance:
C:\Program Files\.....Data>osql -U sa -S TMDC01\sharepoint
Password:
Login failed for user 'sa'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL
Server
connection.
C:\Program Files\.....\Data>osql -E
[Shared Memory]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
[Shared Memory]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).
I've been through a number of the articles on the page you linked to
but most appear to be for full SQL rather than the MSDE
implementation, any further thoughts gratefully received

The default instance name for WSS 2.0 is 'SharePoint' so you are using
the
correct one. First make sure that the MSSQL$SHAREPOINT service is
running
otherwise you won't be able to establish connection. If that isn't the
problem take a look at the following KB article for some
clueshttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/328306

I've picked up a new site that has SBS2003 STD that has been installed
and "looked after" by some techies - it's not very pretty :(
Have removed and then installed Sharepoint2 as it was corrupted.
Installed Sharepoint 3 with all defaults as a parallel install and the
world is good.
However I need to move the database files to another drive, simple I
thought as I've done this before with v2 but this time I'm struggling.
Following KB843580 and can't get connected with osql
MSDE file are in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$SHAREPOINT
