Re: DNS Server Name

If you want to contact me, we can probably fix this remotely in a few
minutes. See www hillservices net and go to the Support page. I am in
California...keep that in mind if you are going to call! Or you can fill out
the contact form and we can take this offline.

Or, we can keep trying here. You will get a MUCH faster resolution offline,
but it's your choice!

OK, so now you have a single NIC. That is fine and is usually easier to get
things going. You should now have the following for Internet access.
Internet > ISP > NAT router/firewall > LAN switch with SBS LAN NIC and
workstations connected. The router should have the following ports forwarded
to the SBS for "normal" operation: 25 SMTP, 443 SSL for OWA and RWW, 444 if
you want SharePoint from the web, and 4125 if you want RWW remote desktop to
work. You should NOT have port 80 forwarded to anything on your LAN.

I would enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP since the single NIC should be your LAN
NIC. I am concerned that your ipconfig shows "Ethernet adapter Internet
Connection" instead of "Ethernet adapter Network Connection" as I believe it
should on a single NIC setup.

Right-click My Computer and click Properties > Computer Name.

What is the domain name?

What is your Full Computer Name for the SBS?

When you ran the CEICW, did you check the box for "My server uses a single
network connection...."?

Install the latest Windows Support Tools (download them from MS) and run
dcdiag and netdiag to make sure your DNS and AD are good.

When you run the CEICW, on the Web Server Certificate page, you should enter
mail.ie2architects.com to match your MX record. On the succeeding pages,
check the Enable Internet email button > Next > Use DNS > Next > Use
Exchange > Next > enter ie2architects.com for your email domain > finish the
wizard.

What do you mean when you say, "I solved my SMTP issue by changing the
default virtual server to ie2.ie2architecturalstudio.local instead of
ie2architects.com the Mask is mail.ie2architects.com"? Where did you make
that change? If you did it in the Exchange System Manager, then you have
incorrect entries if you did it on the Properties > Delivery > Advanced tab.

From the SBS, open a CMD prompt, and then try to Telnet to port 25.

telnet SBSserverNetBIOSname 25

or

telnet SBS-IP-address 25

If that results in a response from Exchange, then do it from a LAN
workstation CMD prompt. If you get a response, use a system off of your LAN
to Telnet from outside of your router (home computer, etc.) and do the
following.

telnet mail.ie2architects.com 25

Which brings up the next section:

You never responded to part of my reply, quoted below.

"Second, your MX of mail.ie2architects.com on IP 64.183.217.242 does not
respond when I Telnet to it as follows:

telnet mail.ie2architects.com 25

However, I do get a response ("220 mx-out2.daemonmail.net ESMTP ready.")
when I Telnet to ie2architects.com on IP 209.240.149.247 on port 25.

So, if I try to send a message to your mail server on
mail.ie2architects.com, nothing answers. You need to fix that. Check it from
the LAN first. If it responds, then look at your firewall to make sure port
25 is forwarded to your server."

Ok, here is where I am at. I disabled the second NIC. The Information
Store
is up and running. Running the Wizard Exchange Tool resulted in no
errors.
I have all my ports set up correctly on my Router. My XP work stations
sees
my mailbox and sends out messages. However, I can not get the CEIWC to
work.
I solved my SMTP issue by changing the default virtual server to
ie2.ie2architecturalstudio.local instead of ie2architects.com the Mask is
mail.ie2architects.com below are my NIC settings. Now, I have sent
several
message out via outlook to my gmail internet account. I Have also sent
several messages from gmail to my mlorenz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx address and I
haven't recieved or messages in either locations. I am at this point sure
my
Database is running and correct, but I have never been able to configure
the
CEIWC tool and get it to run without an error message setting up the
E-mail
configuration. I am stuck. Should I revert back to the two NIC system or
keep the system as is with one NIC?
