Thanks Claus, I will check that. I am having *another* drive installed under
warranty to see if that helps. I'll make sure the tech updates the drivers
etc.
You mention that there may be a *compatibilty* issue....what exactly did you
mean?

I would first check for updated drivers at the Sony site. It looks to me.
like a compatibility issue.

I am having trouble getting Ntbackup to work properly on a new SBS 2003 R2
installation.
The server is a new Acer Altos G540 with a Sony AIT (SDX 570v) tape drive.
When running a backup to tape, it *nearly* completes but errors out with
this message:
Error: The device reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported: Hardware failure.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures.
The operation was ended.
When I Google this error, I end up at KB817688. I have downloaded and
tried
to install this patch but am now getting the message from the patch:
"Setup
has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than
the
update you are applying. There is no need to install this update"..... Now
what?
The backups absolutely have to run for this client so I have installed a
hard drive to backup to temporarily. Note that the backup to disk happens
flawlessly. (I have also added a temp external HD to backup to so the
client
can take it home with him. This backup to disk also works flawlessly)
Here is a truncated copy of the log:

I am unsure what to do now. I have had the tape drive replaced in case it
was faulty but I still get this error message.
Can anyone help please? This has become quite urgent.
Thanks
