basically, thank all the regulars for the speed of response, we have a very
active group and if it wasn't for the help of many participants responses
would be slower.

but, thank you, a kind word is always appreciated, as is confirmation of a
problem's resolution.

Thank you much, SuperGumby.
I called ISP who is working with me now to get the issue taken care of.
I really appreciate it and especially how fast you responded.

yes, if you do not have access to the router they will need to do it for
you. Seems it would be a relatively 'normal' request. You would need to
tell
them the internal IP address of the server and that you need 'PPTP VPN
forwarding' to. This involves TCP port 1723 and IP Protocol 47 (ie. this
is
NOT a 'port', it is an IP protocol, Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE)).

Hey SuperGumby,
Thanks for the lighting fast reply. I did the usual search engine leg
work
on Error 800. It basically telling me the cause could be out of date
firmware. Late last night I was trying to find figure out how to
perform
the
network trace and see if it is advertising a 0 window size in the TCP
handshake. However the documentation on the Cisco site says the UBR900
should be able to handle VPN. I do not have control of the settings on
the
router, maintained by the ISP, so could you please tell me how I can
accomplish configuring the router to forward port 1723 to the server?
Is
that a setting they will have to adjust?

You are not prompted to change your expired password when Internet
Explorer
is configured to connect to a remote access server by using a dial-up
or
a
VPN connection

Mind you, as well as not 'blocking' ports the router will need to
'forward'
1723 (TCP) to the server for PPTP VPN to work.

Hey all,

I am trying to implement VPN on my Win SBS 2003. So far I cannot
get
an
external client able to connect. I first thought it was router,
Cisco
UBR900, which is outdated. I still have not confirmed nor denied it
is
the
problem. But I spoke with my ISP who told me there is no port
blocking
being
performed on the router. So it's not a matter of unblocking the
port.
I
followed the wizards, have checked my settings multiple times. The
first
error I was receiving when attempting to connect was Error 807. Now
I'm
getting Error 800. Can anyone provide me some steps I can take to
isolate
where exactly the problem is.
As a side note, I am able to create a VPN connection from the server
to
itself, just to ensure the server is somewhat operating correctly.

Any help is appreciated,
Doug
