Re: Back up broken by latest updates

Merv's suggestion seems to be working! Please note that this was not the
original problem. What had been working for manths and quit working was
backing up to a REV drive connected to another computer over the network.
Once that quit working I moved the REV to the server to see if I could get it
working there. That's when I ran into the problem of not being able to get
SBS to back up to the local REV.
Thanks to all for the great help. It would be next to impossible to
maintain this SBS without this forum.

Any help here Stuart?
SBS Backup Configuration Wizard does not let you select "Removable Media"
as a backup target location

Hi Susan,
I can connect a USB Harddrive directly to the server and the SBS back up
works. If I connect the USB Rev drive to the server the SBS backup will
not
allow me to use it as the backup device since it shows up as an CD Rom
drive.
I tried backing up to a network hard drive using SBS and it failed at
different points in the process with :
====================================
Error: The device reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported: Unknown error.
There may be a hardware or media problem.
Please check the system event log for relevant failures.
========================================
Perhaps the network is flakey all of a sudden, though I don't see any
signs
of it elsewhere. As I said this was all working flawlessly every day for
well over a year until I rebooted for the latest updates to take effect!!
Coincindence? Maybe.
Right now I'm testing using an NTbackup job to back up to the Rev drive
connected directly to the server. (Not setting up with the SBS backup
wizard). This seems to be working.
Thanks,
Stuart

Again, there's nothing in the last updates nor trends in this group that
points to updates causing this.
Have you tried on another drive?

Hi Susan,
I tried your suggestions but I still had the same problem last night.
I did notice this morning, however, that if I start the back up
manually
while logged onto the server as an administrator that the backup will
run.
So I assume I've got some change in permissions since doing the
updates.
Can you give me any ideas based on the new information?
Thanks,
Stuart

Look for any errors.
Try that.
