Do you have the needed SBS/Vista patch on the server?

I disabled Windows Firewall and the firewall in NIS 2008. It still doesn't work. I think the problem is that the network interface that I'm using has limited connectivity. At least, that's what it says in the Vista Network and Sharing Center.

What should I tweak in Vista so that I can get LAN connectivity for this interface? I have already enabled Network Discovery in Network and Sharing Center.

Here's something else. I have two Ethernet adapters on this PC. I use one adapter to connect to the Internet and that's protected by NIS 2008 except when I disabled the NIS firewall, in which case I had also disabled that Ethernet adapter. I wanted to know if the other Ethernet adapter was faulty - the one I use for the LAN. So, I plugged in the Internet connection cable to that adapter and tested my Internet connection, and it works fine.

So, I think it's something in Vista that has to be tweaked. Could someone please help me figure out what it is?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like something is blocking ICMP traffic. I would check the windows firewall settings as well as Norton. I have noticed that some of the newer XP computers I have installed that ICMP echo request was blocked by default. If this is on you will not be able to ping. You will need to turn of the firewall or allow ICMP as an exception.

Hi:

I have SBS 2003 Premium R2 installed on one computer and Vista Ultimate 64-bit installed on another. I'm not able to ping either computer from the other. I have installed ISA Server 2004 on the SBS 2003 PC. And I have Norton Internet Security 2008 installed on Vista. I have turned on Network Discovery on the Vista computer. The computers are connected to each other through an Ethernet switch. I have verified that the switch and the network cables are working by connecting two Windows XP PCs and pinging each from the other. At first, this wouldn't work until I disabled Windows Firewall on the XP PCs.

What should I be looking at to fix this?

Thx.
