Folks,

I have a couple of e-mail address questions.

1. Some of my users have domain accounts in the following format,
"janed",

Personally, I think using first initial, surname is more logical - but
whatever works for you.

and their e-mail address is "jdoe@xxxxxxxxxxx". In ADUC, I
have set their primary e-mail address to be jdoe@xxxxxxxxxxx, but the
primary keeps changing back to janed@xxxxxxxxxxxx Is that because
the dialog box "Automatically update e-mail address based upon
recipient policy" is checked?

Yes.

Should I uncheck it if I want
jdoe@xxxxxxxxxxx to be the default.

No, I wouldn't do that. What's your company standard? If it's first initial,
surname @ domain.com - change your recipient policy so that %1g%s@xxxxxxxxxx
is the default.
You can add additional ones, too - for firstname@xxxxxxxxxx you'd use
%g@xxxxxxxxxx Etc.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822447 for info on the syntax options.

Does it make a difference either
way?

Yes. Although it works, you don't want to regularly exclude the
users/mail-enabled object from recipient policy updates, as that will be a
pain when you need to manage the whole organization. Avoid whenever
possible.

2. We have a web form on our web site for folks to fill out, and
when they click "submit", it e-mails to webinquiry@xxxxxxxxxxx
webinquiry is not a domain account, but I added that e-mail address
to an existing user in ADUC for web submission to be routed to that
user. Is that a good way to do it, or is there a better way.

I would create a distribution group & assign it this address (after removing
it from the user object) instead. It will make it easier to find, easier to
change if this employee leaves, etc. Also - the user handling this mail can
easily see to whom it was sent. If it's just part of their mailbox, the
recipient display name will always be Jane Doe regardless of the SMTP
address (and they'd have to check the message headers). I'd use a display
name like "Web Site Contact" to make it clearer.

Thanks,

Mike
