Re: major email issues help needed

Patrick,

I interpreted your answer as Exchange SP2 and not W2k3 SP2. Sorry about the
misunderstanding. I assume that you had a look at this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555912.

I have never seen this situation come up in any group. This is really
puzzling. I was hoping that the profile of the 5th user was somehow screwed
up but I guess that's not the case.

I really don't have any other troubleshooting idea at this point. If it
would be my client I would explain the situation and have them move to SMTP
as quickly as possible. In the meantime they could retrieve their email via
individual POP3 connections and feed the mail that way into their mailboxes.

Sorry I can't offer more help.

Claus,

thought i answer your questions about sp2, igf not im sorry. basically
this
is a clean fresh sbs 03 r2 sp2 install, so all was set up prior to users
getting added.

the old server was sp2 and it seemed to work fine.

i did as suggested and found that as soon as i added a 5th person to the
pop
connector then the issues with the 1023 and 1232 errors started.

Just randomly picking a user and stating:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: POP3 Connector
Event Category: Download
Event ID: 1023
Date: 9/4/2007
Time: 9:22:16 PM
User: N/A
Computer: servername-SBS
Description:
The downloading process for mailbox <james@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
[mail.servername-usa.com]> was ended with one or more errors.

as soon as i remove the 5th user, (and it donesnt matter who is in there),
the system starts to work fine. so it seems that no matter who i put in
as
#5, that person screws it all up.

its weird ....

You didn't answer my question about SP2. There are known issues with
regard
to SBS and SP2 - although I haven't seen POP3 connector specific ones but
network related ones which could play into your issue.

After your remarks below I would do another test. Remove all users, add
one
user and then add user 5 next. See if that triggers it. If you can
reproduce
that this starts after a specific user is added you will be further ahead
with your troubleshooting.

Good thing that they are changing. POP3 has never worked reliably.

When did this start - after you applied W2k3 SP2? Do you see any 1035
errors
in the Event log?

Very little to go on here...

What SBS version are you using? What is your Exchange patched up
to?
How
does the SBS send and receive email? Why are the clients using
POP3?
