Re: Can't send email to my own domain

Sorry for not 'thinking before posting'....

My ISP also requires that I use port 587 when sending mail to the SMTP server.

Les,
I think I figured out what CEICW is ... Configure email internet connection
Wizard.

I made the change, and added my authentication into the Exchange Server
Manager.

I then used outlook on a workstation in the domain to sen email to...
- myself
- another user on the same domain but handled by the ISP rather than exchange
- to my work/office domain (att.com)
- to my personal isp email account

The email sent to myselt came through. The other 3 did not. In ESM under
Servers; Queues I see an entry for my ISP's SMTP server with a status of
RETRY. All 3 emails are sitting there.

How can I turn on logging so I can see what my ISP SMTP server is
complaining about?

Hi Brian,

I think you want authenticated smarthost.

First, run CEICW and specify smart host for sending in the exchange email
part. You need to specify your ISP's smtp server here. This will configure
your SMTP connector. Then, go into ESM and in the properties of the SMTP
Connector:

Click the Advanced tab, click the Outbound Security button, select Basic
authentication and specify the username/password your ISP expects.

I am very new to SBS, and am hoping someone can help me solve this email
problem.

I am using POP3 connector to download email from some of our mail accounts
hosted by our isp. (I know I will need to move to full smtp, but using
pop3
connector will make migration mush easier). Downloading email works fine.
Sending email to other accounts hosted by the exchange server also works
fine. When I try to send email to another email account which does not
exist
on exchange but does on our ISP, I get a NDR. KB article 300681 describes
the
problam I am having...

but...

I tried both methods and email still is not making it through. I'm
focusing
on method 1 from that KB article for now.

My questions:

- My isp who hosts my email requires authentication to the SMTP server for
sending email. Do I somehow need to add a userid/password to the steps in
Method 1? If so, how?

- How can I enable some sort of tracing so I can see exactly what the
ISP's
SMTP server doesn't like?

Thank you so much for any help. I've been fighting this issue for 2 weeks
now.
.....brian
