Hello Mike,
Thank you for posting here.
From your post, I understand that you deployed a wireless network. Thenotebook can connect to the primary AP properly, however it cannot connect
to the remote APs. You would like to know if we need to do something on the
SBS server side. If I have misunderstood your concern, please feel free to
correct me.
Since the notebook can work with the primary AP, I think this issue is most
likely caused by that the remote APs are not configured properly.
In the mean time, I would suggest you refer to following article to check
if SBS network is configured properly:
Configure Wireless Networking on Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServerSolutions/SBS/en/library/6202a4df
-3daf-4fa5-9f4d-a409dfddfc171033.mspx?mfr=true
Additional information for your reference:
Windows Server 2003 Wireless Technical Library
http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/technologies/wireless.mspx
I hope the above information is helpful to you. However, if the
manufacture's support confirms that the APs are configured properly and the
issue persists even after the networking is configured according to the
white paper, please help me gather following information:
Please download the MPS Report tool from the following link and run it on
both the SBS server and the clients, then send the generated CAB file to my
mailbox v-mzhuan@xxxxxxxxxxxxx for further investigation so that we can
find what the root cause is:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE

Please try the above steps at your earliest convenience. If you have any
concern, please feel free to let me know.
Best regards,
Manfred Zhuang(MSFT)

| Running SBS 2003 Premium SP2, ISA 2004, WSUS, 2 NIC's and a router, static
| IP, DDNS service through dyndns.org, managed L2/L3 switch capable of
VLAN's,
| 6 WAP's (wireless access points) capable of VLAN's. Switch is on internal
| NIC and primary WAP is wired to switch; broadcasts to/from the other 5
AP's.
| =======================================
| I've had a continuing problem in getting my WAP's to work. I thought I'd
| throw out the basics and see what the readers thought:
| I've set up all WAP's in our conference room, with the primary WAP still
| wired to the switch. Each WAP has a static IP on the LAN, and each has 2
| SSID's - one to identify the building it covers (WPA2-Personal and on VLAN
| 2) for LAN access, and the other is the same SSID preceded by the word
| "Guest" (open or no authentication -- we're a mile from the nearest person
| 'way out on a ranch; on VLAN 3). Each WAP is set to AP mode (there are 3
| choices - AP, WDS with AP, and WDS).
| I am testing them with 2 naotebooks - one running WinXP SP2 and the other
| VISTA Home Premium. I've set both to a vanilla workgroup and then to a
| workgroup/domain with the same name as the domain.
| I can "see" all networks from both notebooks, and all are properly
| identified as either security-enabled or no authentication. I can connect
| great to the primary WAP - I get an IP, can browse the domain shares, and
| access the internet. However, I cannot get an IP from any of the remote
| WAP's. No errors in the server event log, no alerts in ISA. All I see in
| the notebooks Event logs are that the WAP's were contacted but no response
| received.
|
| I've sent an email to the manufacturer's tech support, but am trying to
| cover my bases on the SBS side: am I missing something I should have done
in
| GPMC, ISA, or something else? Any ideas at all on what I can try?
