Hello Customer,
Thank you for your reply and sending me the SMTP log.
Firstly I am sorry that I made a mistake in my last reply. I missed a "not"
in suggestion 1. The problematic domain should not be in the list. I
apologize for the confusion that caused.
You mentioned that when attempting to ping cookecorp.com, it cannot be
resolved. After doing a lookup, I found that there is no A record for
cookecorp.com and the MX record for cookecorp.com points to
smtp.kw.igs.net. It means the actual mail server for @cookecorp.com is
smtp.kw.igs.net. When you send emails to cookecorp.com, the system looks
for MX record for cookecorp.com first. Then the DNS server returns the
result with smtp.kw.igs.net. After that, the emails are sent to
smpt.kw.igs.net.
After checking the SMTP log, I found the error 550 was received. The
possible causes are incorrect PTR record and your email server is in the
block list.
In order to narrow down the cause, I still suggest you contact your ISP to
add the correct PTR record for your mail server.
If the issue persists, I suggest you try following steps:
Test 1: Bypass DNS
========
1. Open Exchange System Manager
2. Expand Domain-->Servers-->ServerName-->Protocols-->SMTP
3. Right click Default SMTP Virtual Server and click Properties.
4. Click Delivery tab
5. Click Advanced button
6. Click Configure
7. Click Add.
8. Type your ISP's DNS server address
9. Click OK.
Please check if the issue persists.
Test 2:
==========
a. Open a command prompt, type "telnet smtp.kw.igs.net 25" (without the
quotation marks) and press Enter.
b. Can you see the SMTP banner? If so, go to the next step. If not, the
Exchange server could drop the SMTP connection.
c. Type "ehlo" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter.
d. Type "mail from: SomeOne@xxxxxxxxxxxx" (without the quotation marks) and
press Enter.
NOTE: SomeOne is an email user name exists in your domain.
e. Type "rcpt to: SomeOne@xxxxxxxxxxxxx" (without the quotation marks) and
press Enter.
f. Type "data" (without the quotation marks) and press Enter.
g. Type "Test message from intersci.com" (without the quotation marks) and
press Enter.
h. Type "." (without the quotation marks) and press Enter.
i. Please check if the email can be received by the "someone" in
cookecorp.com
j. If there is any error message received, please capture a screenshot of
it and send to v-mzhuan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Meanwhile, please send a bouncing back email as an attachment to me.
Please also let me know if there is any firewall installed in your network.

| Suggestion 1: Checking Recipient Policies
| ================
|
| I Did check the recipients policies and i guess its only for mail
| thats locally delivered right.when i place the domains that are being
| rejected the mail is trying out locally and these domains are on the
| internet.
|
|
| Suggestion 2: Contact ISP to add a PTR record for your domain
| =======================================
| Please contact your ISP to add a PTR record for your domain to their
| DNS
| server.
|
| I am Trying to get the ISP add a PTR record for our domain.i am not
| sure if that is the problem.since the problamatic domain here are
| cookecorp.com and nycap.rr.com,when i try and look up the dns for
| cookecorp.com i recieve no response,could nt ping and i guess they
| preferred to hide the dns.but for nycap.rr.com i get response from the
| dns.and for some reason the mail stays in the queue and retrys till it
| times out.
|
| Suggestion 3: Contact the problematic domain's administrator to check
| the
| block list
|
| I will check this ,but i contacted cookecorp and they have no such
| black lists or blocking a particular IP address,i am yet to contact my
| ISP and check.
|
| ================
| In order to keep track of the troubleshooting, I suggest you contact
| the
| problematic domain's administrator to double confirm that your IP
| address
| and domain name are not in their block list.
|
|
| Suggestion 4: Temporarily disable Symantec Antivirus Corporate
| Edition
| =========================================
| Please temporarily disable Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition and
| then
| check if the issue persists.
|
|
| we run symanted AV corporate edition 10.x...but its not on the same
| server,its on a different machine.so i figured out its probably not
| the issue but i disabled internet email option and tried,but have not
| succeeded.
|
|
| 2. Please telnet your email server and send an email to the
| problematic
| domain to narrow down the issue. Please refer to the following article
| for
| detailed steps:
|
| I could not send email by telnetting to our email server since it
| gives me a #550 Administrative Prohibition.
|
|
| 3. Please enable SMTP log first, reproduce the issue, then send the
| log to
| v-mzh...@xxxxxxxxxxxxx:
|
| I have emailed you the log file for one of the problematic domail.
|
|
|
| Thank You,
| FRK
|
|
