RE: 2 Domains, 1 laptop

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the reply. One of the domains is SBS, the other is Windows Server
2003 Standard with Exchange. The VPC might be the way to go on this.

Hi Colin,

Thank you for posting here.

For this question, I'd like to provide some info for your reference.

First of all, one Windows client computer can only join one domain. Since
you have 2 domains, and needs access to both Exchange Servers, I'm afraid
that you're now encountering a problem.

If both domains are using SBS Servers, I'd like to provide a workaround for
you.

Step 1. Install the certificate for the 2nd domain.

1. Visit https://public.domain.name/exchange for the 2nd domain.
2. When you see the security warning, click View Certificate.
3. Follow the instruction to install the certificate to your "Trusted Root
Certification Authorities".

Step 2. Create a new E-mail Profile.

1. Open Mail in Control Panel.
2. Click Show Profiles.
3. Choose Prompt for a profile to be used.
4. Click Add to create a new profile.

Step 3. Configure e-mail account.

1. Visit and logon https://publc.domain.name/remote.
2. Click the link "Configure Outlook via the Internet" and follow the
instruction to configure the e-mail account.

BTW, other workarounds including:

- Build a VPC inside your client computer, and join the VPC to the 2nd
domain.
- Configure 2nd domain to allow POP3 or IMAP, and use POP3/IMAP to
send/receive e-mails.

I hope the above info helps.

Sincerely,

Bill Peng

Hi,

Has anyone used software such as 'Mobile Net Switch' or equivalent ? I
have
a client who's laptop is a member of an SBS domain but he regularly visits
subsiduary offices where they have a separate domain and hence separate
Exchange Server. He needs to be able to connect to both so he can receive
email at both locations. Any advice on this will be appreciated.

Regards Colin.
