Server Performance Reports broken

I have a new installation of SBS2003 R2 Std Ed. I removed WSUS 2.0 and this
seems to have broken the Server Performance Reports (among other things).
The error I get is:
The page cannot be displayed
An error occurred on the page you are trying to view.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
To work around this problem, perform the following steps. After each
step, try again to access the page.
a.. Ensure that the MSSQL$SBSMONITORING service is started.
b.. Ensure that the server is not low on memory or disk space.
c.. Restart the server.
d.. Verify that the server is functional and that there are no
system-wide problems.
e.. Run the Set Up Monitoring Reports and Alerts task in the Server
Management Monitoring and Reporting taskpad.

I performed the suggested steps in the error page. After running the set up
wizard, it will work until the next scheduled data collection event.
The event log message indicates that the performance report perf.aspx is
still attempting to report on update services which is now uninstalled. I
attempted replacing this file with another from an SBS2003 SP1 system that
has never had WSUS installed. The file date/time stamp on the SP1 file is
the same as other files in the monitoring folder (the one I replaced was
newer, having beed modified when WSUS was installed). This did not help.
The monitoring and reporting snap-in from the server management console
works for everything but the performance report. That is, the server usage
report works fine and other links are fine.
I have googled this event log error and came close with a few hits that were
more related with changes to the SQL database. I don't believe my problem is
with SQL
I posted another issue with the removing of WSUS from and R2 box last week
where I could not get update services out of the admin console as long as
LoadConsole.exe was involved.
WSUS integrates so tightly with the Server Management console and with
monitoring, that it may be next to impossible to *completely* remove it.
What I would like to see is a detailed description of what changes occur to
and SBS box when the R2 WSUS service is installed, or a complete HowTo on
manually removing it.
I'm worried that just reinstalling SBS monitoring will not fix this problem.
Many thanks for this group's help.
