Re: IIS web config

Hi Henrik,

Here's the plan:

1. Create another web site in your IIS.
2. When doing so, configure it to use a host header (such as
www.thatname.com) and listen on port 80.
3. Migrate the original www.thatname.com to your SBS Server.
4. Configure authentication for your newly created web site.

Now, ask your ISP to point www.thatname.com to your SBS Public IP adress,
and everything shall be fine.

CAUTION: Do you have ISA Server installed? If yes, please do not configure
the A record now, since you must configure a Web Publishing Rule first.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Bill Peng

Thanks for your reply Llarry,

I do agree with you and others that say that you shouldnt host your
website
yourself, use an ISP. In the case with my own default web, Its not an prod
site, my own prod site is hosted by a ISP. The default web Is right now
used
by myname.com and is a FQDN thats not in use for prod issues.

How ever the FQDN thatname.com Is a prod domainname. But the most
important
need I h<ve is a logon situation for certain files in the FQDN
thatname.com
wich my ISP cant provid and I cant web code a solution fore.

Regards
Henrik

Henrik:

Most here would say that to host your own web site is a bad move. Too
many attacks through port 80, and not enough band width or power
protection.

IMHO, you would do better to work this out with a hosting company where
the web sites can link to each other without involving your SBS server.

Hi, I need help with following (are a complete nuub on web site config).
(Have a sbs2003 sp1 r2)

Goals
1) Use a web with www.thatname.com located at my ISP. All done!
2) On the website above, use a link, pointing to www.myweb.com, located
on my web server (default website).
3) On www.myweb.com I want to have a url like www.myweb.com/thatname
that
the above link under 2) point to.
4) When clicking on the link above, getting promted for a username and
password.

Alternativs.
I already using one public FQDN on my server, I can move the site
thatname.com from the ISP to my server and create a completly new
website
for FQDN thatname.com on my SBS2003 OR create a website or virtual
site
under my own myname.com.

Questions.

1. How do I do this right?
2. Create a new website or a new virtual site that has files that Im
linking to?
3. How do I config my DNS? On the DNS on the ISP side I cannot config
parts of my FQDN after the domain name root (in my case irl .se) (Ex.
www.myname.com only not for urls like www.myname.com/thatname)( I am
probably as stupid with DNS knowledge...)(config with sub domains with
my
FQDN myname.com works fine such as huddinge.myname.com)?
4. When done with above, how do I configure ISA to publish my new site,
use one of the existing rules?
5. How do I configure the chosen website for promting of the username
oand password of my choice?

If Its easier to host the whole domainname that today is hosted at the
ISP, how do I config my server with the same goals as above?
How do I add a second FQDN so I can host websites other then my own and
use multiple domainnames within Exchange etc etc?

I do hope some good sole can give me some of his time answering my
questions.
I would be very greatfull.

Thanks for anytime given to my needs :-)

Henrik
