problem with our Microsoft 2000 server

Hi
our company has a Microsoft 2000 server, today I restarted server
right after I installed microsoft patch on it, then I installed second
patch, when I tried to restart the server, the screen froze(but still
can move the cursor) during the shut down. Although the screen froze
but the server still respond to the requests(still can access the
folders).
I remotely logged into the server and restarted the server again, but
the strange thing is the console screen still froze

I think I will have to reboot the server(by pressing the power button)
anyone knows what the problem could be?
