Re: DNS Configuration error

We are running out of options here. Are you running a 1 or 2 NIC setup? When
you rerun the CEICW did you select "enable firewall" and reconfigured the
options? When did you notice that RWW etc is not working from the outside?
Did you patch the server - if so with what?

On your new box: What happens if you do an nslookup? Does the IP address of
your SBS show up? Can you resolve your SBS server name?

Hi Claus, sorry for the delay in getting back to you as I've been away at
a
conference.

To answer your questions:
Yes we are running ISA Server 2004 Standard edition,
Yes we can connect to RWW from inside (same for OWA)
Error messages: when I try to VPN in i get error 800 and with RWW i get
"internet exploere can not display page"
I have re run CEICW and it completes without any errors.
There have been no changes to the router
and no addition firewall excluding what's built in.

"Claus" wrote:

That's important information that I wish you would have mentioned before.
I
assume you are not running ISA?

Can you connect to RWW from the inside? How about OWA? What errors do you
get when you try to connect from the outside?
Did you try running the CEICW and did it finish without errors? Did you
make
any changes on your router? Do you have a firewall - if yes what?

I have joined 12 other computers (4 months ago) successfully and I have
tried
it with all but the LAN disabled. I am also unable to reach remote web
workspace from external computers which (in my head) leads me back to
dns
or
something else wrong on the SBS?

Are you sure that you have all but the LAN NIC disabled? I see some
tunnels
and I also see IPV6 stuff. I would get rid of that and only have the
LAN
NIC
active without IPV6. From my experience the reason for the error is
that
the
VISTA box is not using the right query and therefore cannot find the
SVR
record.

Hi Claus

Both those updates you suggest are already installed on the SBS and
Vista
boxes accordingly and it is not a compatability issue as suggested
in
the
link in the article on smallbizserver.net. It is a network
configuration
error message.

In your initial post you left out that it is a Vista box. There are

What OS is installed on the workstation? Please post an ipconfig

the SBS box and one of the workstations that you are trying to

Hi Iakov

When I try to join via http://servername/connectcomputer I get
"An

occured when configuring networking settings. See your

however
if I try to connect to the domain manually I get the following
message
"Note:

The error was: "This operation returned because the timeout

The query was for the SRV record for
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.<domainname>

The DNS servers used by this computer for name resolution are
not
responding.
This computer is configured to use DNS servers with the
following

these

Hope this helps
