Hmm...OK mine works just fine..wonder why I though it didn't work..

What appears to happen is that when I connect my handheld to my laptop
it then switches wireless connection off and uses the USB cradle
option under connections.

Just tried it, sent some e-mails to my office account, seems to work
OK..

Jim.

OK...now I'm confused...

I get back into the office today and conenct to the LAN and logon to
my firewall connection manager...and now it won't work again...

When I tested this the other day I did this from home over a dial in
VPN connection.
I still had internet access at the time, albiet through my router/
hardware firewall at home.
That's when I had it working OK.

Now I'm in the office behind a managed firewall with a connection
manager client it won;t work again.

So, mindful that we have another gateway at the office I 've changed
my IP address and gateway to go out through the instead and logged off
of the firewall connection manager...so I'm on the internet through a
different gateway..

..and now it works OK again...

OK, I thought that when I was connected to the LAN then the sync was
redirected through the LAN.
Is this not correct ?
Does the handheld still require internet access to sync with exhange
even though I'm connected to my laptop and the laptop is connected to
the LAN ?

It appears that the handheld does indeed switch from using it's own
wireless internet gateway to the gateway configured on the laptop. So
there is a change of sorts when I connect the handheld to the laptop
via the USB cable.

But I thought that the handheld would hit the exchange server via the
LAN whilst it was in effect docked rather than over the internet..

Obviously this isn't the case ?

Obviously a firewall thing ?

On my laptop on the LAN I can hit OWA on https://externalservername/exchange
on the other gateway that works.

But I cannot get any response to https://externalservername/exchange
on the main gateway/firewall client.

The other gateway is just going through SBS NAT/Basic firewall and
behind hardware firewall on a router.

Our main internet gateway goes through a 3rd party managed firewall
box/solution with client software.

I guess this is where I need to start..but this would be assuming that
the Exchange Activesync is going out vie the internet and back in
rather than switching to hitting Exchange across the LAN directly.

Is this what happens ?

Jim.
