Hello Customer,
Thank you for posting here.
According to your description, I understand that you want to backup your
SBS to a LTO tape which connect on another server. If I have misunderstood
the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, we cannot backup SBS to a tape which connect to
another server. We suggest you connect the tape to SBS and do backup.
On SBS, we can use SBS backup wizard to backup SBS: Open Server Management
console, locate on Backup node, click Configure Backup link in right pane.
In the wizard, you can select backup your SBS to a network share or local
hard disk. However, we cannot backup SBS to tape on another server.
If you do not want to connect tape to SBS, I have a workaround for you:
1. Create shared folder on Windows server 2003.
2. Run SBS backup wizard to backup SBS to the windows 2003 shard folder.
You can scheduled it at non-work hours.
3. On the windows server 2003, run ntbackup to backup the shared folder to
the tape. Please schedule the backup time different from the step 2 backup.
When you need to restore your SBS, you can restore the .bkf file from the
tape first. Then, use the bkf file to restore your SBS.
I hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| I have an SBS 2003 R2 server running pretty much everything (DNS, HTTP,
| Exchange, File, FTP) except DHCP. I have a second server running Server
2K3,
| SAV, and loaded with an LTO 1 drive. The second server is a domain
member
| but serves only as SAV and backup server.
|
| I'd like to know what the best strategy is for DR. I'm currently doing
| ntbackup fulls daily to a third drive on server1. My thought was to just
| backup the backup file to an LTO tape for offsite storage.
|
| Thoughts?
