Sounds like you want to turn the Dell Poweredge 2400 into a Terminal Server
(Windows 2003 Server). It could then be access via RWW. I think the 2400
only allowed for a mximum of 2 GB of RAM and you'd want to max this out for
10 users. Personally, if you want to go the TS route, I buy a new low end
server rather than try to make the 2400 work as the early 2400s were Pentium
450 MHz machines (a Dell 840 could be had for less than $1000 + Win2K3
Sewrver OS + TS CALs).
I don't know that having a VPN on the TS server is going to relieve much
pressure on the new SBS server. I'll leave that for others to comment on.

I'm looking for a Server o/s that would provide a suitable front end to
support ~ 10 Remote Web Workplace and VPN connections to take the load off
a
Win2003SBS box. At present remote users connect to dedicated local
workstations using the RWW facility to use a major local busines
appliction
written in Access with forms embedded in the database. They also connect
using the SBS VPN Connectoid to synchronise mail and off-line documents.
The existing Dell 2400 is being replaced with a far more powerful IBM
x3500
which leaves us with a perfectly serviceable server with no home. We
would
like to use this machine to support the remote users and dispense with the
local workstations whilst maintaining the functionality of the RWW and VPN
Sessions. It is not practicable at present to use the VPN Connectiod
exclusively as the database size and line upstream speed prohibit it.
Any suggestions, please?
