RE: SBS 2K3 R2 and Outlook

Hello Eric,

Thank you for your email.

The archive file created on the SBS is the folder redirection function. By
default, the SBS will enable My Document redirection for all user accounts.
That means all user accounts' My Document will be stored on SBS. The UNC is
\\SBSname\Users\username\. On the SBS, you can find the folder under
c:\Users Shard Folders\username\.

If you want to disable the My Document redirection for all user accounts,
please perform the following steps:

To disable My Document redirection, please open Server Management console,
locate on Users node, click Configure My Documents Redirection link in
right pane, select Do not redirect My Documents Folders option, click OK.
Then restart client computers to apply this settings.

Note: you also can use this tool to redirect My Document to another shard
folder

Hope the information help.

If there's anything else I can do for you, please do not hesitate to let me
know.

Thank you and have a nice day,

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Hello Eric,
|
| Thank you for posting here.
|
| According to your description, I understand that the new SBS domain user
| account create a new user profile on client computer. If I have
| misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.
|
| Based on my research, we have create user account and computer account
for
| SBS clients thru Add Users Wizard. Then, we can join the client computer
to
| SBS domain thru Connectcomputer Wizard. The Connectcomputer Wizard can
also
| transfer the local user profile to domain user profile.
|
| 1. Create a domain account and a computer account for client
| a. Open Server Management console on SBS
| b. Extend to Users node
| c. Click Add a User link in right pane
| d. Go through the Add User Wizard, create domain user account and
computer
| account for the client
|
| 2. Join the client to SBS domain via connectcomputer
| a. On the client, access the web page http://SBSname/connectomputer
| b. Go through the wizard, assign the domain user account and the computer
| account which created in step 1# to this client.
| c. Reboot the client, and logon with the new domain user account.
|
| You can transfer the user profile thru the connectcomputer wizard. Of
| course, we can manually migrate the local profile to domain user profile:
|
| 1. Log on to the computer using an Administrator account.
| 2. Right-click My Computer , and then click Properties .
| 3. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under User Profiles pane, click
the
| local profile that contains the settings you want, and then click Copy To

|
| NOTE : The profile usually contains the name of the computer and the name
| of the user account.
|
| 4. In the Copy profile to box, click Browse , and then browse to the
| folder that contains the profiles. If the network path requires
| credentials, if you manually enter the path, the profiles will not load.
| The default folder for profiles is C:\Documents and Settings (for vista
| C:\users).
| 5. Click the domain accounts folder, which by default has the Netbios
name
| of the domain appended to the username.
| 6. Click OK .
| 7. Click Change , add the appropriate permissions to the domain user
| account so that it can use the profile, and then click OK until you
return
| to the desktop.
|
| After you transfer the local user account to domain account, you will get
| the same desktop, documents, Outlook profile and so on.
|
| Additional, the auto-complete content when you input the email address in
| Outlook will store in local file, we cannot import them to contacts.
| However, we can backup and restore the auto-complete content to another
| Outlook profile.
|
| Based on my knowledge, the addresses are stored in an .nk2 file which is
| used by Outlook to perform both the automatic name checking and the
| automatic completion features. The .nk2 file is generated per Outlook
| profile. To restore the addresses, we need to search for the .nk2 file of
| the original profile with the name <Profile Name>.nk2, and then use it to
| replace the <New Profile Name>.nk2 file. Please refer to the following
| steps for more information.
|
| Step 1: Search for and backup the original .nk2 file.
| =================================
| 1. Quit Outlook.
| 2. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer.
| 3. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
| 4. Under Advanced Settings, click to select the Show hidden files and
| folders check box.
| 5. Click OK.
| 6. Click Start, point to Search, and then click All files or folders.
| 7. In the Search Companion box, type *.nk2 in the All or part of the file
| name box: box.
| 8. In the Look In box, click to select your local hard disk.
| 9. Click Search.
| 10. The .nk2 file with the name of the original profile is what we look
for.
| By default, the file is located in the following folder in Windows XP:
| C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
|
| The following article is for your reference.
|
| 287623 How to reset the nickname and the automatic completion caches in
| Outlook
| <http://support.microsoft.com/?id=287623>
|
| Step 2: Restore the .nk2 file.
| =====================
| If you would like to use the original .nk2 file in the new Outlook
profile,
| please replace the <New Profile Name>.nk2 with the original .nk2 file.
Then
| you are able to use it.
|
| If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
| kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:
|
| 1. What is your main concern of SBS?
|
| 2. What do you mean by "as was done in the past"?
|
| 3. What do you mean by "the setup cleansed the Documents and settings
| folder"?
|
| 4. Gather MPS network report on SBS:
|
| a. Download MPSrepot_network from
|
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
| 15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE
|
| b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe on the server box.
|
| c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure
will
| take 10~15 minutes.
|
| d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
| %SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\
|
| e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
|
| I hope these steps will give you some help.
|
| Thanks and have a nice day!
|
| Best regards,
|

| | Setup a new server with SBS 2K3 R2 for a client. Allowed server to
fully
| | update on Microsoft update. Connected computers to server. Discovered
| that
| | the work stations actually set up complete account (including Outlook
| email)
| | on each wok station for the user, as opposed to my importing Outlook
| email,
| | contacts, etc., the desktop, and documents, as was done in the past.
| |
| | However, I discovered that the contacts were not imported to Outlook
nor
| | were the additional folders that the client had set up to sort email.
| | Further, I found that the setup cleansed the Documents and settings
| folder,
| | removing all Outlook files except for the new .pst file it set up
(which
| is
| | quite large).
| |
| | Noticed, that when clicking to start a new email and clicking on 'TO'
and
| | entering a letter, all of the client contacts beginning with the typed
| | letter appear to choose from. How do I get all of these email
addresses
| | from the PST file in to contacts? And where do I find the additional
| | folders that the client had?
| |
| | TIA,
| | Eric
