Re: COM Server Permission Error

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi there:

I was getting the VERY same message and the user was "Network SErvice" but I
do not see this as a user. What am I doing wrong?

I went to the permissions you mentioned and checked default. I have 100's
of these messages.

Hi Lan,

Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.

From your description, I know that you get DCOM 10016 and POP3 errors on
SBS server. If I am off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Lan, please understand that our newsgroup is an issue based service,
meaning we usually respond to one question/issue per post. This will
lessen the confusion for both of us, as well as ensure that our results are
accurate and not a result of a test for a different question. Therefore,
it is recommended you create a new thread on your POP3 issue so that the
dedicated MS engineer can help you on it. Thank you for your understanding!

Here we will focus DCOM 10016 error.

Regarding this issue, let us try the following steps to check the issue on
the computer:

On the SBS server:
1. Start => run => enter dcomcnfg => click "OK"
2. Click on compmnent services => my computer => DCOM Config
3. Select the "NETMAN" (This is the object for the class:
{BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}) and right click => Properties
Security => launch and activation permissions => give the "NETWORK SERVICE"
account full permission in the list.

Also it is recommended to give the NETWORK SERVICE account full access
permissions to the default DCOM permission on the computer.
(Rright click my computer in the CDOMCNFG console => properties =>. default
COM security => click on the edit default button in launch permissions =>
there add network service and give it full access) Programs that use DCOM
do not work correctly after you install Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Service Pack 1

If the problem persist, please help me collect the following information
for further research:

1. MPS Report

1) Download MPS report tool from:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE
2) Run the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.exe on the server box.
3) Wait for 10~15 minutes.
4) Open Windows explorer, navigate to
%SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\cab\
5) Send the .cab file to us.

2. Export HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID key, do zip it and send to me.

Please send the information to v-robeli@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with subject:

I am looking forward to hear from you.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,
