RE: change server ip address wizard

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hello Pete,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that the change server IP
address wizard does not work on SBS. If I have misunderstood the problem,
please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, the Change Server IP Address tool will fail after you
install Windows Server 2003 SP1 but not SBS 2003 sp1. This is a known
issue.

The Change Server IP Address tool does not change the IP address of your
server after you install Windows Server 2003 SP1 on a computer that is
running Windows Small Business Server 2003. To correct this problem, remove
Windows Server 2003 SP1, and then run the Change Server IP Address tool
again. After you have finished this, run the Configure E-mail and Internet
Connection Wizard to make sure that your networking settings are configured
correctly.

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
1. Remove Windows Server 2003 SP1. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove
Programs.
b. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Windows Server 2003
Service Pack 1, and then click Remove.
c. In the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 Removal Wizard, click Next to
remove the service pack.

2. Run the Change Server IP Address tool. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, and then click Server Management to open Server
Management.
b. In the console tree, click Internet and E-mail.
c. In the details pane, click Change Server IP Address.
d. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the wizard.

3. Run the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard. To do this,
follow these steps:
a. Click Start, and then click Server Management to open Server
Management.
b. In the console tree, click Internet and E-mail.
c. In the details pane, click Connect to the Internet.
d. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the wizard.

This problem is corrected in Windows Small Business Server 2003 SP1.
Therefore, you can also install the SBS 2003 sp1 to fix this issue:

On the SBS server, click Start, click Run, type "regedit" (without the
quotation marks) and click OK. Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer, and check the
data of the registry value ServicePackNumber. Is it set to "1"? If not,
then this problem will occur because SBS 2003 SP1 has not been completely
installed. To successfully install SBS 2003 SP1, we must install all five
updates listed below. Additionally, the updates must be installed in the
sequence listed.

Downloading and Installing Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1
http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/0/f/e0fee8ce-768d-41c0-8871-9bc48e0
b3fc3/ToDownLoadFilesandReadInstructions.htm

A. Service Pack 1 for the Windows Server 2003 operating system
B. Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Service Pack 1
C. Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1
E. Windows XP SP2 for Client Deployment
F. Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1

After you applied the whole SBS 2003 SP1, please run CEICW and then re-run
change server IP address wizard to test the issue. What is the result?

If the issue persists, please perform the following steps to reinstall the
change server IP address wizard on SBS:

To reinstall change server IP address wizard:
A. Open Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs.
B. Click Change/Remove for Windows Small Business Server 2003 in Add or
Remove Programs:
C. Click "Windows Small Business Server 2003" and click on "Change/Remove".
D. Follow the setup prompts until you reach the "Component Selection"
dialog screen.
E. Set the "Networking" to "Reinstall".
F. Complete the setup wizard. You'll be prompted for CD3, point it to the
extracted SBS cd3 folder.

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:

Gather MPS network report:

a. Download MPSrepot_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE

b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe on the server box.

c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will
take 10~15 minutes.

d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\

e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
