Re: How to Migrate from Workgroup to Domain

Thanks Steve,

I went through the wizard

Which wizard?

but there's no option to enter a Domain it
only asks for a work group.

Manually disjoin the domain on the workstations & go back to a workgroup.

Manually create the computer accounts in the ServerManagement console. I
recommend generic names ...workstation01, workstation02, etc..... don't name
computers after people.

Run http://servername/connectcomputer

Pick the computer name from the list ....you can assign the domain user you
already created, if you wish

If you are trying to copy Joe's old local workstation profile to Joe's new
domain user profile, pick Joe in the drop down list

Rinse, lather, repeat.

Cheers.

With SBS you should always use the wizards and not do things
manually.

No, I changed the setting in the System Properties - Computer Name
screen.

Sorry, I'm sure this must have been covered before but I did a
search and
couldn't find an answer.

The situation...
We have ran a network with windows NT on a Workgroup (No Domain).
All PC's running Windows XP

Installed a new SBS with a domain.

The Problem...
When we change the users PC from Workgroup to Domain a new
account is created on the PC so all the users files software etc
are not in that account. There must be an easy way to add the
new Domain to the users PCs
without having to transfer everything across accounts.

Thanks!!
Gary
