Hello Greg,
Thank you for posting here, and thanks for costas's inputs.
According to your description, I understand that you are prompted to
install Remote Desktop ActiveX control every time when you access RWW, even
if you had installed the ActiveX. If I have misunderstood the problem,
please don't hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:
1. Let's enable the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" feature in
Internet Explorer on the client and see if this helps:
A. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
B. Click the Advanced tab. Scroll to the bottom, in the Security section,
click to check the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" check box.
C. Click OK. Restart IE and have a test.
2. Set the IE security setting and see if this makes a difference:
A. Open Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
B. Click the Security tab, select Trusted Sites and click Custom Level.
C. Select Prompt or Enable for Download signed ActiveX controls and
Download unsigned ActiveX controls.
D. Click OK. Restart IE and have a test.
3. Please note that you need to be a local admin to install Active X
controls. I recommend logging in as a local admin, installing the ActiveX
control, and then log in the RWW.
4. The actual file that is downloading is located under the
%systemroot%\Inetpub\Remote directory on the SBS server, and it's called
Msrdp.cab. You may copy the Msrdp.cab from the SBS server to the client
computer, and install it manually.
5. As Costas said, please clear the IE cache and delete IE temporary files
to see if it help.
If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:
1. Can I success access the SBS Remote Desktop from remote client thru RWW?
2. What's edition of the remote client IE?
3. Try to access the RWW from another remote computer, do you get the same
issue?
4. Do you get the same issue when you access the RWW from internal clients?
I hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)
