In order to map the drive...they had to supply credentials, user name and password, correct?
So, for that period during which they are powered up...they've entered credentials which allow them to browse
Now those credentials, are they specific to that user...no one else uses that user name /password correct?
And regarding joining the domain...

I have a laptop running XP Media edition and on occasion this computer needs
access to a shared common folder on the server. As we are running SPS2003,
this laptop cannot log in to the domain as it uses fast switching. However,
it can map to the common drive. The problem is that if this computer maps
to the drive and the user clicks on my network places, it appears that this
user is able to browse any shared folder in addition to the one that was
mapped. And if the mapping is disconnected and the user again views my
network places, the shared folders are still visible. This doesn't occur
after a reboot but once the shared resource is mapped, it will occur until
the computer is disconnected from the network or rebooted. It seems to me
this is a blatent security issue and I need some direction on how I might
plug this big, big hole. Thanks in advance,
Mark
