Re: WM5/ActiveSync Admin problem and solution from MS

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

You could be right (not there), Gary.

Stuff is moving around ;-). It might have been a white paper.

But here is the reference - from the SBS Technical Reference library at:

Accessing the Exchange Server ActiveSync Web Administration Tool
If you cannot access the Web site for the Exchange Server ActiveSync Web Administration tool, perform the following:

. On the server, open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, and then ensure that there is only one default Web site in IIS Manager.

When the tool is installed, a duplicate default Web site is created if your original default Web site is bound to a specific IP address. To remove the duplicate default Web site, you can use either of the following two methods:

. Option A:

1.
Uninstall the tool.

2.
Change the IP address settings of the original default Web site to "All Unassigned".

3.
Install the tool again.

4.
Revert the IP address settings of the default Web site back to the original values.

. Option B:

1.
Create a new virtual directory in the original default Web site.

2.
Export the settings from the duplicate default Web site.

3.
Import the settings to the new virtual directory in the original default Web site.

4.
Delete the duplicate default Web site created by the tool.

. Check the settings of the ExAdmin virtual directory to ensure that SSL is not required.

Looked, didn't see it. Really odd and unnerving to see that second Default Web Site.

The behaviour and the solution is documented in the MobileAdmin release notes.

Problem: Trying to install Exchange ActiveSync MobileAdmin tool on SBS2003/SP2
(Exchange SP2, IIS6). Can't access page after successful install. Looking at
IIS admin, the MobileAdmin installer has installed a second Default Web Site
with MobileAdmin under that. I'm fairly certain that MobileAdmin should be
installed under the original Default Web Site. Need help fixing this.

Solution: "From your post, I understand that when installing ActiveSync Administration
tool, a new IIS web site is created and the /MobileAdmin virtual directory
is created under this newly created IIS web site. If this is not correct,
please feel free to let me know.

To troubleshoot this issue, I suggest we manually copy the /MobileAdmin
virtual directory from the newly created IIS web site to the Default Web
Site. Here are the detailed steps:

1. Start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
2. Locate the Exchange virtual directory. The default location is as
follows:

Web Sites\<newly_created_IIS_web_site>\MobileAdmin

3. Right-click the MobileAdmin virtual directory, click All Tasks, and then
click Save Configuration to a File.
4. In the File name box, type a name. For example, type MobileAdmin. Click
OK.
5. Right-click on Default Web Site, click New, and then click Virtual
Directory (from file).
6. In the Import Configuration dialog box, click Browse, locate the file
that you created in step 4, click Open, and then click Read File.
7. Under Select a configuration to import , click MobileAdmin, and then
click OK.
8. Please disable the IIS web site which is created when installing
ActiveSync Administrator tool.

Note: Please remove this IIS web site.

9. Restart IIS Admin Service. To do this, click Start, click Run, type
"iisreset" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.

Then, please attempt to access the
https://<Exchange_server_name>/mobileadmin and log on with the
Administrator's credential."
