Hello Customer,
There is additional information for you.
If you want to upgrade your SBS 2003 sp1 to SBS 2003 R2, we can perform the
WSUS 2.0 installation on SBS 2003 sp1 from SBS 2003 R2 disks. This is a
sub-steps of R2 upgrading.
Please gather the WSUS installation log and R2 installation log to me. I
will help to analyze why you cannot install the WSUS 2.0 on your SBS 2003
sp1.
1. Go to the WSUS installation log folder(by default it will be c:\programs
files\update service\logs folder) and send me all the log files in this
folder.
2. Gather R2setup.log located at c:\program files\Microsoft
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\logs and send to me at
v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Hello Customer,
|
| Thank you for posting here.
|
| According to your description, I understand that you want to install the
| SBS 2003 R2 component WSUS 2.0 on your SBS 2003 sp1. However, you get
| error. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let
me
| know.
|
| First, I'd like verify that you had installed the whole SBS 2003 sp1. The
| SBS 2003 sp1 including 5 parts, we have to install them in turn:
|
| Downloading and Installing Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service
Pack 1
|
http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/0/f/e0fee8ce-768d-41c0-8871-9bc48e0
| b3fc3/ToDownLoadFilesandReadInstructions.htm
|
| Including:
| Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
| Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Service Pack 1
| Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1
| Windows XP SP2 for Client Deployment
| Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1
|
| Based on my research, we cannot install the SBS 2003 R2 component on SBS
| 2003 sp1. This will break license. I suggest we try to free download WSUS
| 2.0 or WSUS 3.0 from Microsoft web site, and then install it on your SBS
| 2003 sp1 thru the following step-by-step documents:

|
| If we still cannot install WSUS 2.0 on SBS 2003 sp1 after we perform the
| above steps, please kindly help me collect some information for further
| investigation:
|
| 1. Please capture screenshots on the error messages and send the pictures
| to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
|
| 2. Gather MPS network report:
|
| a. Download MPSrepot_network from
|
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
| 15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE
|
| b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe on the server box.
|
| c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure
will
| take 10~15 minutes.
|
| d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
| %SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\
|
| e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
|
| Hope these steps will give you some help.

| | I have the SBS2k3SP1 server upgrading the R2 components and attempted
to
| | remove the WSUS 1.0 installation (which was never done... but was
| prompted to
| | be removed while installing the R2 components) and the Add/Remove
showed
| the
| | SUS 1.0 to be removed - but generated an error that it was not found,
| then
| | was removed from the Add/Remove panel.
| |
| | I rebooted, ran the R2 upgrade and same error - WSUS 2.0 could not be
| | installed. So, without spending too much time on this -
| |
| | 1. Is there a way to completeing convince my SBS2k3SP1 Prem (no ISA)
that
| it
| | knows nothing about a previous WSUS or SUS or any US installations?
| |
| | 2. I played around with WSUS 3.0 install (after the first errors) to
| then,
| | uninstall the 3.0 (saving the database as instructed) to do the R2
| upgrade
| | but the WSUS 3.0 standalone install failed - only after creating the
IIS
| | folders, the WSUS services and the SQL 2005 reference instance but
won't
| | uninstall or reinstall.... Will the recommendation in #1. take care of
| this
| | too?
| |
| | 3. and Finally, as it appears that my current configuration is in "OMG
| I've
| | never seen that." software limbo - is there a sweet little link to
| "Restoring
| | your SBS2k3SP1 Data to a new SBS2k3R2 Install" for Dummies?
| |
| | Thanks, and as ususal -
