Well I think it had to do with feedback from partners, customers, etc and when they ask them about "features" the one that seemed to stand out for small business was patch managment, which is essentially what SBS R2 is, integrated, wizardized patch management. There wasn't time to do that and the actual Windows Server R2 features but MS likes product names to be consistent...so they both got called R2

Don't think you will get there with SBS, even if you have R2
SBS R2 and Windows Server 2003 R2, which is what the article refers to, are not the same puppy
Most of the "enhancements" that Windows Server 2003 R2 provided are not available to SBS 2003...even SBS 2003 R2
