Hi Gordon,
Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.
I am sorry for the delay due to the weekend.
From your description, I know that your server is down due to hard diskfailure. You setup a new SBS server, but you have problem restore the
Exchange mailbox and Public Folder. If that's not right, please don't
hesitate to let me know.
First, since you are experience a very urgent issue, a suggestion is to
call CSS directly who will provide quick and effective support. Thanks for
your understanding.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a
look at the web site listed below.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS
If you are outside the US please see http://support.microsoft.com for
regional support phone numbers.
I'd like to give you the following suggestions:
Please make sure you fully took the step in the following white paper as
you restore Exchange:
258243.KB.EN-US XADM: How to Back Up and Restore an Exchange 2000 Server
Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;258243
Note: The KB also applies to Exchange 2003.
In addition, if you want to recovery the information store from the older
backup successfully, the following information needs to be preserved the
same as the old Exchange server. Please have a check first.
- Organization Name
- Administrative Group Name
- Storage Group Name
- Store Name
If any of the four names above doesn't in accord with the original name,
the stores cannot be loaded on the new server. Therefore, the restore will
fail. You have to reinstall the whole Exchange system from scratch. All the
information in the new Exchange will be lost.

glad to help. Please help me collect the following information:
1. Can you see any error message restoring Exchange? If yes, please send me
screen shot of the error message.
2. MPS Report

http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE to download the file.
2) Run the MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE on the server box.
3) Wait for 10~15 minutes.
4) Open Windows explorer, navigate to %SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Exchange\cab\
5) Send the .cab file directly to v-robeli@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with subject:

<Ok - My Nenesis has bitten me in the ass now and I'm posting this as a way
<of gathering some information that will allow me to actually restore data
to
<SBS, now and hopefully in the future if any other servers go down.
<
<My internal work server has been playing up for a while, but the other day
<it decided that it was no longer going to reboot. Even after booting fron
<the CD and tryign all forms of repairing, nothing would get the drive to
<launch, though I do have full access to the dat on the hard drive.
<
<Now... I have only got the original drive, but replaced this with a new
<drive that will eventually get upped into a raid setup. I have done a new
<installation of SBS 2003, same server name, domain name etc etc.....
but...
<I cannot figure out how on earth to get back the most imprtant bit of data
<for me... the public folder list I had been using to store all of my
client
<data on. Mind you, apart from that I also found out that I cannot figure
out
<how to restore the exchange email as well from the original data files,
<though thankfully I did save my main systems data to a pst file so I do
have
<the emails to hand... but the Public Folder list has me stumped.
<
<I open my hands and say to everyone.... when it comes to restoring a
server
<I suck big time, and with that comment made I am determined to try and
work
<on resolving this poor skill set as soon as I can, but it just appears to
me
<that restoring Exchange is so dam difficult that I just don't know where
to
<start!!!!
<
<Can anyone help me out with getting the data back acorss to the new server
<or am I just stuffed?
<
<Many thanks in advanced....
