Hi Cerwin,

How to install Small Business Server 2003 in an existing Active Directory
domain
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884453

One requirement for using SBS is that it MUST hold all 5 FSMO roles. You
can have other domain controllers in the network, but SBS must be what
used to be called the PDC (Primary Domain Controller) for the network.
The article above may be helpful for integrating SBS 2003 into your
existing domain.

As for the "5 server licenses", SBS 2003 comes with 1 server license and 5
CALs. You can then buy additional Device or User CALs up to a limit of 75
(the original 5 + 70 additional). The original 5 CALs can be designated
as either Device or User CALs (or any combination of the two types to make
5 total CALs).

Hi Guys

ive been through and checked the forums to see if i could answer my
question,
but it seems i cant

i have Small Business Server with 5 Server licenses and 75 CAL, i didnt
know
at the time the servers needed to be setup as a Domain Controller

Now i have 1 server running Exchange and AD and another server running
File
and Printing, so i installed SBS on both didnt setup AD on the file
server at
the start. ok thats fine i installed AD and set it up as a domain and
said it
was a secondary domain.

now it tells me i can only have 1 domain which is confusing because MS
website says this

Q. Can I have other domain controllers on my SBS 2003 R2 network?

A. Yes. The most common configuration is to configure a server as a
domain
controller and then install it in a remote office. You can then manage
all
the users and computers in your SBS 2003 R2 domain using the server
running
SBS 2003 R2, while still providing local logon, printing, storage, and
management capabilities at each office.

i wanna do this the right way but the file server needs to be seperated
now i
wasnt told from the begging this is what you needed to do in setting it
up
and etc and if that was the case why did i pay to get 5 server licenses
when
in reality you can only have 1 server, can anybody help me seperate this
Fileserver and still have the users authenticate with it
