In the course of testing this problem I have found the following
things:
1) If a new appointment with contact link is created BEFORE the PST is
disconnected that link will continue to work after the PST is removed.
2) While the PST is still connected, I can open the Exchange calendar
appointment and click the contact link. The contact properties will
open normally. I edit the notes field on the contact and click the
"save and close" button. I open the appointment again from the
Exchange calendar and verify the contacts link works and the change
to the notes field is saved. I then disconnect the PST and go to the
Exchange mailbox Contacts folder. I open the contact I edited
earlier, but the change to the notes field is NOT there. It appears
the link in the Exchange mailbox calendar is actually linked to the
PST contacts NOT the Exchange contacts.
This is really driving me crazy. Any ideas? Thanks again.
Hi - I suggest you post in microsoft.public.outlook for more expert help

Hello,
Our company has been running Outlook on each PC in a peer-to-peer
network
with individual POP3 accounts for a few years now and we've just
recently
upgraded to Exchange Server 2003 (with SBS 2003).
I created user accounts and mailboxes for each person, and then
connected
all workstations to the domain (by running
http://servername/connectcomputer).
I set up a new mail profile for each user that has both the
Exchange mailbox
(as default) and the PST file (using file | open | outlook data
file). I then
copied each user's data to the from their personal folder to their
mailbox
folders.
The problem I am having occurs when I close the personal folder
(PST) to have the users running only from their exchange mailbox
folders. At the bottom of each calendar appointment is a link to a
contact. As soon as I close the PST, all the contact links stop
working. If I manually re-link the
appointment to the contact before I close the PST, the link does
work after
the PST is closed. However, there are too many of these links to
try and recreate them manually for each user.
Does anyone know how to import all the conacts and calendar items
from a PST
into Exchange without breaking the links in the appointments?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
