Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

i use Vista to access remote SBS sites via RDP with no problems, and without having to disable protected mode.

Manfred (et al),

I'm sure you're correct but I needed a quick solution and toggling out of
Protected Mode was the only thing I did to make it work. I now have time to
go back and 'repair' any security flaws I may have promoted by taking this
short-cut. When the customer is on the phone with a problem, I'll skin the
cat any way I can...

Hi Deto,

Thank you for your sharing.

I have done some tests and find that by default, IE7 can RDP the server
with the protected mode on.

Your issue could be caused by some custom settings that conflict with the
protected mode.

For this issue, we may add the sites to the Trusted Sites zone to resolve
it.

The Protected Mode feature is applied per security zone. By default, IE7
does not enable Protected mode for the Trusted Sites zone. We can add the
sites that do not work in Protected Mode to the Trusted Sites list.
