Re: Backup fails with volsnap error

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Glad to hear you're making progress. It would be nice to see Trend fix
that - seems like it would cut down on having to monitor that your signature
updates are current.

With Trend under control, it sounds like you may benefit from some more RAM
in that server.

update....

Trend suggested that I turn off the "show alert if virus pattern not
updated" on the server and reboot the server. I did this and waited a day.
So
far the memory usage for Trend is fine with all services using about
100,000K
of memory. I dont know if this "fixed" the problem or is just because I
did a
clean boot; I will find out in a couple of weeks.

On the other hand, overall memory usage is up to 120% of installed RAM
again.
This may not be an issue... wait and see.

Trend SMB has been working fine in general; the PC client is much better
than Norton; and the price is reasonable (half of what Norton costs).

I have had a couple of minor issues with Trend (doesnt work with IPv6
installed); otherwise it just works. I have been using it for 3 years now.
The current issue I think is with the Exchange SP2 not with Trend.

I too believe your problem is most likely Trend Micro as I am
experiencing exactly the same problem. I'm running SBS 2003 on a
machine with 1GB ram. All has been fine up until this weekend when I
installed a trial of Trend Micro Server/Client/Messaging for SMB. The
first ntbackup schedule that ran the following Monday failed with
exactly the same "VolSnap" memory errors your mentioned.

We're looking to purchase Trend at some stage over the next month,
based on the outcome of this Trial. So it will be interesting to hear
how Trend Micro respond to your issue.

Regards,
Michael.
