Hello Sam,
Thank you for kind update.
From your reply, you mentioned "We do not find "Backup" "Monitoring" underDefault Web Site." At this point, let's try the following steps to
reinstall backup and monitoring components.
Reinstall backup component:
===================
Perform a full backup of the SBS server. After that launching the
integrated setup from Add/Remove components and reinstall the backup will
not affect the other components on the SBS server. In addition, please do
not run it through your SBS CD 1 since it brings up the OS setup of SBS.
Please run it from Add/remove components.
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Select Windows Small Business Server 2003 and then click Change/Remove.
The Setup Wizard appears.
3. Click Next to start the wizard.
4. On the Windows Configuration page, click Next.
5. On the Component Selection page, Select Reinstall next to Server Tools.
Select None next to Intranet, Monitoring, Networking, Administration, and
Client Deployment.
6. On the Component Summary page, click Next.
7. Click Finish.
Note, if you applied SP1, and the prompt appears, insert a disc for Windows
Small Business Server 2003 with Service Pack 1. To resolve this problem, we
need follow these steps:
1. Start a cmd prompt and change directory to the SP1 download folder (or
the SBS03_SP1 folder on the SBS SP1 PKG_CD2).
2. Type "SBS2003-KB885918-SP1-X86-ENU.EXE /x" (with no quotation marks) and
press Enter.
3. Specifying a path for the extracted files (such as C:\SBSSP1).
4. Insert the original SBS (non-SP1) Disc 3 into the CDROM.
5. Copy all the folders and the files from the
<CDROM>:\SBS\CLIENTAPPS\SHAREPT folder to the
C:\SBSSP1\cd3\sbs\clientapps\sharept folder.
6. Run the SBS Integrated Setup, and when the setup program prompts for the
CD3, point it to the cd3 folder created in the previous step.
Reinstall Monitoring component:
=====================
Note: Please make a full backup of the SBS 2003 server before the following
steps.
I. Uninstall Monitoring
a. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove
Programs.
b. Select Windows Small Business Server 2003 and then click
Change/Remove. The Setup Wizard appears.
c. Click Next to start the wizard.
d. On the Windows Configuration page, click Next.
e. On the Component Selection page, in the Action column, change
Server Tools to Maintenance, change Monitoring component to Remove, and
then click Next.
f. On the Component Summary page, click Next.
g. Click Finish.
II. Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SBSMONITORING)
In Add or Remove Programs, select Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine
(SBSMONITORING) and then click Remove. A dialog box appears. To confirm
that you want to remove, click Yes.
III. Rename the folder
Start Windows Explorer, and then locate and rename the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$SBSMONITORING
to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\Old.MSSQL$SBSMONITORING
IV. Use Registry Editor to delete the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Monitoring
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\SBSMonitoring
V. Install the Monitoring component
a. In Add or Remove Programs, select Windows Small Business Server
2003 and then click Change/Remove. The Setup Wizard appears.
b. Click Next.
c. On the Windows Configuration page, click Next.
d. On the Component Selection page, in the Action column, change
Server Tools to Maintenance, change Monitoring component to Install, and
then click Next.
e. On the Logon Information page, click Next.
f. On the Component Summary page, click Next.
g. Click Finish.
Once the SBS Integrated Setup finishes, we need to reinstall SBS SP1. We
may also want to run the CEICW to ensure the IIS settings are correct.
Downloading and Installing Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1
http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/0/f/e0fee8ce-768d-41c0-8871-9bc48e0

If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:
1. Please capture screenshots on the Monitoring & Reporting and Backup info
in server management, then send the pictures to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
2. Gather IIS Metabase:
1) Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71A-4C73-
B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en
2) Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer)
3) Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file".
4) Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export.
5) Send the file and the password to v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
3. Please send me the Network MPS report.
a. Visit
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE. to download the file.
b. Run the MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE on the server box.
c. Wait for 10~15 minutes.
d. Open Windows explorer, navigate to
%SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\cab\
e. Send the .cab file directly to me
Hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Hi Terence,
| Many thanks for your quick response.
| Iâ??ve gone through the things you suggested:
|
| 1. MSSQL$SBSMONITORING is started.
| 2. I went to IIS. In default website properties on the website tab I
went
| to Advanced next to IP Address. I had the following settings under IP
| Address and TCP Port:
| Default 80
| 127.0.0.1 80
| 192.168.100.2 80
| 217.41.28.26 80
|
| None of them had anything under the host header value. I didnâ??t want
to
| delete anything from this area as I donâ??t know enough about it.
|
| 3. I opened inetmgr. Double clicked the server name. Clicked â??Web
Sitesâ??.
| Double clicked Default Web Site. There is no folder (virtual directory)
| called Monitoring. There is also no folder called Backup. Please let me
| know the best way to create them.
|
| As I got this far and hit a problem I didnâ??t look through any of your
other
| suggestions. Iâ??d be grateful for any help you can provide.
|
| Best Regards,
|
| Sam
