I think that with no backup, you're in a situation that calls for the best
possible help not to lose that data. My best advice at this point would be
to call PSS (Microsoft support) and have them talk you through this. I
doubt if this is something that most SBS'ers have first hand experience
with, and it's something that would benefit from a dedicated rep sticking
with you until you get it resolved.

Dave, to answer your question, yes, I deselected allow inheritance and,
unfortunately, the horse ran off. Now the Information store no longer
shows
up in ESM, just the Public Store. And, here's the best part. I have no
backup.
Any ideas you could suggest would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Did you have to stop allowing inheritance in order to set those
permissions?
I'm looking at the permissions on my Mailbox Store, and everything listed
there is an inherited permission. If that's the case, you could just
re-check the Inherit box and that should hopefully fix it.
In the spirit of locking the barn door after the horse ran off, I
recommend
not tinkering with this type of setting, unless troubleshooting results
specifically indicate that as appropriate. Even then, I recommend
carefully
documenting the old settings in writing before changing anything.

I was having difficulty managing mailboxes, even logged in as domain
admin.
I
went into ESM and right-clicked the Information Store and changed the
default
permissions. I gave domain admins, enterpise admins, etc.. full
permissions
and authenticated users read, write and change. Now users cannot
connect
to
the exchange server. Mail is coming in but users cannot send. Is there
anyway
to restore default permissions?
Thank you,
.
