The MSDE instance you try to connect to is either the instance for SharePoint or SBS Monitoring. You'll have to create a different instance for web development or any other purpose. There is a newer version out (SQL Server 2005 Express Edition) which you can download ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ ) and use for development. It includes SQL Server Management Studio Express, which you can use to manage the database

Ok, from what I see I have the MSDE SQL Server.
I already installed it and everything is great. Now I am trying to access the DB from my laptop that I have Visual Web Developer but it doesn't let me connect. Is there a restriction on the connections to the server using the MSDE verision of SQL? Does it have to be local?
Is there a way to create a DB and use it to administer it from my laptop where I am working on the website development?
Regards and thanks,
Teo

When the 'Windows SBS 2003 R2 Premium Technologies Setup' window comes up, clik on "Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005". That should do it

For some reason, I am trying to run the setup for the MSDE SQL server. I added the SAPWD field to the SETUP.INI as well as the INSTANCENAME field. However, when I run the setup it sends me an invalide instance name and the installation quits.
Any suggestions on what else I am missing.
Thanks much,
Teo

You can find it in the Premium Technologies disks and manuall install it. As far as the icon on the tray, it is just the SQL Server Service Manager and it's not running that's why you don't see any arrows there. After you install SQL Server the manager will active and list the database server

On the installation it didn't prompt me for the disks nor anything. Is there a way to install it from the disks? Or how would I go about to install it. Also, I see the small SQL server icon on the tray but it doesn't even have the green play arrow, it's just blank, not active.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Teo
