RE: VBScript: Remote Desktop Disconnected

Todd,

I have a client with the same exact scenario. Rdp via RWW works fine from
the LAN but from the WAN behind a sonicwall firewall it randomly disconnects
before the timeout period has expired.

Did you find a solution to this problem. I agree with you that this is
likely a Sonicwall problem, but, I have not narrowed the field to the exact
Sonicwall setting.

Let us know here in this discussion group if you have stumbled on the
solution.

Thanks!

Hello Todd,

Thanks for posting here. And thanks for Merv's inputs.

From your problem description, I understand this issue to be: you could
connect to the remote desktop of client computer through RWW site from
external. If I am off base, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Additionally, I would like to confirm that you get the following error
message, when you connect to them.

VBScript: Remote Desktop Disconnected
The client could not connect to the remote computer. Remote connections
might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new
connections. It is also possible that network problems area preventing your
connection. Please try connecting again later. If the problem continues to
occur, contact your administrator.

I suggest we try to rerun the CEICW to confirm the RWW is properly
published:

Go through the follow KB and Rerun CEICW again carefully.

How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us

Detailed steps for your reference:

a. On the SBS 2003 Server open the Server Management console. Go to
Standard Management\To Do List.

b. Click the "Connect to the Internet" link.

c. When navigating to the Firewall page, select "Enable firewall" and click
Next (I suppose you have 2 network adapters in SBS 2003).

d. On the "Services Configuration" page, select all the items and then
click Next.

e. On the "Web Services Configuration" page, make sure "Allow access to the
entire Web site from the Internet" is selected. If you select "Allow access
to only the following Web site services from the Internet", make sure all
item in the list are selected. Click Next.

f. On the "Web Server Certificate" page, choose to create a new Web server
certificate and then type the public FQDN (your new DNS name) that you will
use to access OWA and RWW (for example, if your public FQDN that you use to
access the sites is www.xyz.com, you should type www.xyz.com as the new
certificate name).

g. Go through the remaining steps.

Then test this issue.

The issue actually indicates an issue of 4125 is blocked.

1. The hardware firewall in front of your SBS server, please make sure you
have forward TCP port 4125 inbound to SBS server external interface.

Note: However, it is not OPEN the TCP 4125 port, but FORWARD the TCP port
4125 to SBS server external interface. For how to forward port on your
firewall, please try to connect your firewall vendor.

2. Please make sure the remote client computer which is trying to access
the RWW is not behind the firewall and 4125 port outgoing is allowed.

828053 ISA Server prevents connection to a remote desktop when you connect
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=828053

3. Please also try to connect to the RWW through multiple remote client
workstations and see if the issue could be reproduced all the time. In
addition, on the client workstation that using RWW to connect to Server
desktop, in Internet Explorer on the workstation you are connecting from,
go to Tools, Internet Options, then click on the Privacy tab, remove the
check for Block pop-ups.

If you have any questions or concerns related to this issue, please let me
know.

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
