Hello Kevin,
Thank you for posting here.
According to your description, I understand that you get error when you run
connectcomputer wizard on SBS client computer. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:
Step 1: Configure the DNS settings on the client computer to point to your
Windows Small Business Server-based computer. To do this, follow these
steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network
Connections.
3. Disable all the network connections that are not connected to a
network. To do this, right-click the network connection, and then click
Disable.
4. Right-click the network connection that is connected to your Windows
Small Business Server internal network, and then click Properties.
5. Double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
6. Use of the following methods:
a. To configure the client computer to obtain DNS server information from
the Windows Small Business Server-based computer, click Obtain DNS server
address automatically.
b. To specify your Windows Small Business Server-based computer as the DNS
server, click Use the following DNS server addresses, and then type the IP
address of your Windows Small Business Server-based computer in the
Preferred DNS server box.
7. Click OK two times.
8. Click Start, click Run, type cmd , and then click OK.
9. Type ipconfig /flushdns , and then press ENTER.
10. Type ipconfig /registerdns , and then press ENTER.
11. Visit the http:// SmallBusinessServerName /ConnectComputer Web site to
connect to the Windows Small Business Server network.
Step 2: Verify at the server, Inetpub\ConnectComputer\server.txt contains
the current
domain and server name. Notice the server ip is "" <blank>. That is ok.
Server.txt should look like
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<root>
<server ip="" domain="sbsdomain.local" netbios="sbsdomain"
name="sbsservername"/>
</root>
If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:
1. Does this issue happen on all clients?
2. Please post the ipconfig /all outcome from client computer?
Hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)
