Hi Robert
Before I saw this reply I had removed win 2003 sp2 and installed all
five components of sbs sp1 except share point update which was not
needed and exchange 2003 was already on sp2. I however did not install
ISA2004 sp1 and left ISA 2000 as it is. I am not sure what but
something made the outgoing emails to start going out and ICW and
Remote Access Wizrads ran fine. So far so good. This afternoon
suddenly the out going emails stopped again. No significant events in
the log except the ones below and ICW runs fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Regards

Hello John,
Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.
From your description, I know that the e-mails stay in SMTP queue and
cannot be send out. If I am off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Please let me know the following to make the situation more clearly:
1. Are the problematic e-mails sent to internal recipients or Internet
recipients?
2. Do all the senders or some specific senders have this problem?
3. Can the user get NDR?
4. Do all the outgoing e-mails have this problem?
In your application log, you only found
SOCKS Filter error 20002
Microsoft Firewall 14060
Microsoft Management Console 1000
Based on my research, Socks Filter is used when the internal clients access
the external site by using the socks connection. This issue may occur if
there is an application which has already been listening on port 1080.
Please follow the steps below to find out that application:
At a command prompt, run "netstat -ano | find ":1080"" (without the
quotation marks). You should see a line similar to the following:
TCP 192.168.16.2:1080 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 2340
Here the "2340" is the ID of the process that is listening on port 1080.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to click Task Manager. On the Processes tab. Click View
-> Select Columns. Check PID (Process Identifier) and click OK. In the
process list, find the process with 2340 PID. What''s the process?
When you find out the process that is listening on port 1080, you need to
reconfigure it to listen on a different port. Restart that application and
see if the problem will disappear.
Please also take the following steps:
Step 1: Please rerun the CEICW wizard again to ensure the network and
e-mail setting correct.
825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763
Step 2: Please make a clean boot to make sure the problem is not caused
third party software:
1. Click Start->Run...->type msconfig and press Enter.
2. Click Services tab and select Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable
All third party Services.
3. Click Startup tab and Disable All startup items.
4. Click OK and choose Restart.
5. After reboot, check whether the problem still occurs.
6. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.
Step 3: If you have e-mail scan software installed, please temporally
uninstall and check again.
Step 4: Please make sure you domain has three records of DNS: A, MX and PRT
correct registered by your ISP.
You can use NSLOOKUP tool to check these records.
Using NSlookup.exehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/200525
Step 5: Please try to send mail to the problematic domain via telnet, can
you send out e-mail successfully?
1. On SBS server, in the command prompt, run the following command "telnet
intersci.com 25", and then try to use the telnet session to send an
internet email:
helo
mail from:<email address>
rcpt to:<internet email address>
