Re: Secondary AD

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

I really feel like I'm being a bit of an Ogre here, but realistically you're
still trying to make a silk purse of a Sow's ear. ....but I really don't
want to discourage you from coming down this path...

Yes, you can certainly configure the 4 drives as a 2x RAID 1 if the
controller supports it, and that -will- take a load off the system.

But. Most obviously, ( and unless they have different GX260s in the UK ) ,
there is -no-where- to put your 4 Disk RAID in a GX260.
Secondly both the power supply and cooling system would be woefully
inadequate, so you're up for a new enclosure as well.

By the time you buy all the bits, and put them together ( with now warranty
and no guarantee of compatibility ) I strongly believe that you'd be better
off buying a "real" server.

We have an "After Market" here where you can buy ex-demo, refurbished and
re-warranted HP Servers and Equipment and in addition HP resellers are
running out End of Range Stock at great prices .... I'm sure that must be
true in the UK as well.

If I was in the UK I'd offer you one at cost price just to see you on the right road...

I dont intend to use ISA as i have no knowledge of it however i have
thought that if i upgrade it to 2GB RAM put in a RAID controller and
switch over to that and maybe use 4x 200GB Drives i am wondering wether i
can raid it so i can have 400GB HDD main space and 400GB HDD mirror for
failsafe.

i can also up the processor speed to 3.5GHz i cant really do alot more
than that but it may aswell be a server for the upgrades its going to get
this week.

any other suggestions on how i can imorove the current spec without
getting a new server.
