File copied to desktop in login script appears to be overwritten by users profile

Hi,
We use SBS 2003 with XP clients. For over a year I have had a login
script for all users which checks if two documents on the users
desktop are the latest version. If not, it copies the latest version
from the network to the client. It has worked fine for over a year,
but now for some reason it appears to have stopped working.
I say "appears" because if I put a pause in the script, I can see the
lines where it does the copy, and it says "1 file copied" for each
document. However, if I check the client desktop, it is still the old
version of the documents.
What I think is happening is, the login script is successfully copying
the files, but the users (roaming) profile is overwriting the copy
with the old version. Is this possible? If so, why might it have
started happening now and how can I stop it?
Thanks for any help
Bobby
