RE: Upgrade to Premium After Installing WSS 3.0

Hello Bob,

Thank you for posting here.

From the post, I understand you do not install SQL 2005 Workgroup on SBS
2003 R2 before he installed WSS 3.0 on it and WSS 3.0 using SSEE (SQL
Server 2005 Embedded edition) as database. Now, you want to migrate the
database from SSEE to SQL 2005 Workgroup.

If this is your concern, please repost your issue in WSS newsgroup for
further assistance.

This newsgroup is primarily for issues involving deployment, configuration,
consultation and troubleshooting. The reason why we recommend posting
appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and
other partners who read the newsgroups regularly can either share their
knowledge or learn from your interaction with us.

| My SBS 2003 R2 currently has WSS 2.0 running side-by-side with WSS 3.0
| (as per installation instructions specific to SBS 2003). I am ready
| to install SQL 2005 Workgroup Edition from R2 Premium Technologies
| Upgrade. The instructions provide for migrating the SPv2 WMSDE to
| 2005 Workgroup but I have been unable to find guidance on switching
| SPv3 from it's default Microsoft##SSEE to 2005 Workgroup. Other
| installation facts:
|
| (1) SPv2 is NOT in use (thus it's database contains only the
| installation default data) but must remain up and running due to its
| tight integration with SBS wizards, components, etc.
|
| (2) SPv3 contains only test data and could be re-installed if
| necessary.
|
| (3) Everything seems to be running correctly (except for a single .NET
| 2.0 error that happens daily at 2:45 AM, but that's another story).
|
| I wonder if upgrading from the current configuration to SQL 2005
| Workgroup would have any benefits (e.g. less memory utilization, some
| features in WG that are n/a in SSEE, etc.).
|
| >From the 04/26/2007 post "Allocated Memory Alerts!" I see that I could
| uninstall WSS 3.0 (and remove the SSEE) then install SQL 2005
| Workgroup (and migrate 2.0 from WMSDE to WG 2005) then re-install WSS
| 3.0 but this time select the "Server Farm" option. I'm guessing this
| would result in 2 instances of WG 2005: one for SPv2 and one for
| SPv3. Certainly a "cleaner" configuration than before but I wonder if
| I'm just asking for trouble here.
|
| Any guidance/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
